Our Method

Companions first. Protectors when it matters.

Our philosophy

What we believe

A protection dog should be a family companion first: calm in the house, confident outside, and ready to protect when it matters.

We don’t train dogs to be aggressive; we teach them to fight. Like a boxer, they aren’t aggressive, but they know how to defend themselves.

A dog only truly works for you if it wants to. That is why everything we do is built on trust, and on a dog that enjoys its work.

Raised with us

How we raise them

  • Every dog is carefully selected from reputable breeders or bred in our own programme.
  • They grow up in our home as part of our family, living in a large pack of dogs, so they become fluent in “dog language” and get along with other dogs.
  • They are socialised with people, children and other dogs, and taught not to react to other dogs on walks.
  • The first two years lay the foundation for the dog’s whole life, so we never skip steps.
  • Hips and elbows are X-rayed on every dog.

Protection training

How we train protection

Protection training is an art and a science, and it takes years to master. Our dogs learn step by step with a trained helper:

  • Confidence: we build the dog up gradually, so it stays confident under pressure rather than fearful.
  • The grip: where and when to bite, and why a full, calm grip matters instead of biting anywhere or shaking.
  • The out: letting go on command, every time.
  • Real-life scenarios: a dog that bites a sleeve on the training field won’t automatically protect you at home. The context is completely different, so we train in situations as close to real life as possible.

Your dog loves and trusts you, which is exactly why owners can’t do their own dog’s bite work. Facing an intimidating stranger takes a different kind of courage, and it has to be built by people who know how.

How we train

Balanced, reward-based and low-stress

We believe in balanced, reward-based training methods. We have dedicated our careers to finding ways to train these dogs with as little stress as possible.

The dog world, like the horse world, still has people stuck in old ways of doing things. There are better, more modern and more humane ways, and we make sure our dogs always enjoy their training.

Everyday life

Obedience and manners

A protection dog has to be easy to live with. Our dogs are trained to a high standard of obedience and household manners, so they are calm, controllable and a pleasure to have around. A trick or two might also be included.

Handover and beyond

Teaching you

A trained dog is only half of the partnership. At handover we spend time with you, teaching you how to work with your dog until you feel comfortable.

It usually takes 2 to 6 months for a dog to fully settle into a new home, and we guide you through it. After that, our phone stays open for advice and updates.

Honest advice

Not every home is ready, and that’s OK

These dogs are not for everyone, and sometimes the right answer is “not yet”. We will always tell you honestly. If you are still deciding, start with the free first chapter of our book.

Let’s talk

Every dog starts with a conversation

Tell us about your home, your family and what you’re looking for, and we’ll take it from there.
